Flying Fish Crime Scene?
Flying fish keep landing on deck, strangely either headless or hamburgered. Hitting Adrenalin at full speed must hurt.

Adrenalin-isms
Del: don't sail to high and tickle the dragon.
AlexF: that's not a squall, it's a rainbow!
Jasper: I will only say this once…
Randall: I can't drive 175
Eberly: only Randall would get blinded by a flying fish!
Knox: sail down, sail up, what's next?
Mark: what is “shay ka bray??”
Shana: "MARRRRRKKKKK!"

Fun-O-Meter
Alex F hit the SantaCruz50 fun-o-meter at 28.4 knots. So much for a dry boat – rooster tails of water up to the height of the reef points on the main!!!

Comms are down - using Delorme Tracker
Our comms are down. All is well. We had a busy night – big wet squalls with up to 44 knots of wind. Big swell in two different directions.

Jon: Where does a good general keep his armies?..... (wait for it) up his sleevies!
We have been laughing about this joke for days. The best part was that Mark had to ask for clarification. Clearly, we are delirious from sleep deprivation and overall excitement about racing out here with some wicked fun and challenging conditions. When we don't know the answer to a question, "sleevies" seems like a perfectly good one.
Today was our more-than-half way-party. On cue, the sun and puffy clouds made an appearance - as did Knox in an eye patch (again, that seems perfectly normal out here).
It finally feels like summer! We had cheeseburgers in paradise, sweet potato fries, and cake with icing. Our freezer is keeping us well fed. We bombed down big waves at crazy speeds to "go fast tunes" (yes we also have a bluetooth stereo). Wagner (think Valkyries) has never gone so fast at sea.
Uh oh, gotta go - another squall is hunting us down.
PeaceOut, The Adrenalin Junkies

Back at Sea
Tuesday, July 19, 2016
Several years ago, I reconnected with a college boyfriend who read about me in Latitude 38. Sean took me sailing on his fixer upper, handyman special Gozzard 37. To someone walking by Yume on the dock, they might not have thought she was pretty or fast. But she was a diamond in the rough. Yume treated Sean and I to a wonderful day of sailing, reminiscing, and laughter.
For one reason or many, Sean never got around to fixing her up. He sold her for more than he originally paid to another person with great intentions of returning Yume to her former glory. Although I still keep in touch and go sailing with Sean, I didn't really think about Yume after that day....
Until I bought Adrenalin, a Santa Cruz 50. While preparing for the Pacific Cup, I noticed that two small pieces of the floor boards were a deeper color with more patina. As fate would have it, Adrenalin's prior owners had made wooden plugs to cover the hole where the cruising table would live. They recycled the honeyed teak and holly from some old abandoned boat at Berkeley Marine.
Slowly, I turned over the two pieces of wood. Written on the back in black ink they read: "Parts from Yume. Back at sea."
Today, as Team Adrenalin is racing across the Pacific to Kaneohe, Oahu, Yume has never looked so pretty and been so fast. Yume. Always with you. Always with me.
PeaceOut, ShanaCruz50

Trying to sleep in a rocket ship
I have had the weirdest reoccurring dream (since Thursday). I was trying to sleep in a rocket ship. I was rolling back and forth, loud humming and swishing, and the occasional banging noises are coming from under my bed, everything feels like it is going in circles. Things are damp. I am occasionally weightless. I feel like I am blasting through space.
Oh wait, I am blasting through space - and water - and my boat IS a rocketship! Santa Cruz <3!

Sunday July 17
Aloha! things are warming up out here. Shorts and sandals during the day. The winds are lighter but the boat is still surfing along. The water is more blue, but vbecause of the cloud ocver, it is not the intense violet yet. We are zooming along under spiannker, so the comnditions down below are far more comfortable. We enjoyed Fred Paxton's infamous brownies and a tasty turkey veg meatloaf from Robin with some amazing spicy mango sauce I found at Safeway (it had a monkey on the label, I had to try it!).
The days are long as although we are sailing acrross time zones, we are still on PST. We will have a full moon in a few nights - so even with the cloud cover, the nights are well lit so we can see the spinnaker, the foredeck, and some sort of horizon. We had a busy night with little sleep (time, tide, and sail changes wait for no man), but we are all caught up. Things (sock, shirts, boots) are starting to smell. No worries, though, in a few days, we won't even notice.
Flying fish and squid are zinging about. Plstic garbage is more noticeable. While sailing fast to Hawaii is our primary concern, there are a lot of stories, songs, and laughs.
Fast IS fun!
Peace Out: Shana, Mark, Del, Jon, Jasper, AlexF, AlexK, and Randall.

Fasten your seatbelts
I don't know where to start. I am stting at the nav desk, seat belted in, we are heeled over, rolling about at a beam reach. I have to hold teh keyboard down so it doesn't fly off the table. My hands are soaked with sea water and abit sticky. Please forgive typos!
We had a great start and a wonderful send off from the home dock and from our friends on Another Girl.
We saw humback whales outdside the Gate.
We have yet to see any light winds. It is blowy - 22-32 knots and the swell is big - 10 foot or so. Sea spray flies over the deck and douses those in the cockpit. Driving last night after the moon dipped below the horizon was a real challenge. Our boat speed has been phenomenal. Our team is in good spirits despite teh damp and lumpy conditions. We are dreaming of warmer weather. David Parker sent us off with some amazing chicken mushroom risotto and ratatouille. yUm!
We haven't tucked into the go fast cookies from Robin and Gail or Fred PAxton's infamous brownies, yet.
We saw out frist albatross (the smaller brown ones) and a strom ptrel and some crazy big dolphins jumping high out of hte waves. Due to the wind and swell, the rubbish sightings have been minium,al (harder to see). I did see a big telephone pole-sized log.
While it is loud and noisy on deck, it is relatively qiet, dry, and comnfortable downbelow. This is a completetly differnet experidfnce than doublhandingf ona Farr36!!!
We haven't been out here long enough for insightful blogging - more to come!
