CLIPPER RTW: Atlantic Squall

CLIPPER RTW Training: Funky All the Way Home

2009

Clipper Training - sounds of the Hoff

2009 and way too many decibels!

Hazards to Re-Entry (Post Pacific Cup thoughts

Stepping off the boat (it means the race is over);

Closing your eyes in the shower;

Everyone seems to speak so loudly;

Bright lights;

Mai Tais;

Sleeping under your office desk every four hours because you are offwatch;

Driving on the freeway seems way too fast;

Gravity;

Ringing phones;

Having to change your clothes and having a choice of what to wear;

Repeatedly explaining that at night, one doesn’t “pull over” drop anchor in the middle of the ocean, you ARE the chef on board, there are only pipe berths and no staterooms, etc.;

Other people's problems (i.e., your day job);

Grown-up shoes;

Ocean Racer's Amnesia (you forget about sleep deprivation, aching muscles, freeze dried food, unstable surroundings, squalls, broken gear, and boat butt and cannot wait be back out on the ocean);

Avoiding the Pacific Low: you spend the entire race tracking and avoiding the Pacific High (no wind) but when you come home from the race and begin to
assimilate into a land-based reality, the Pacific Low hits you like a ton of bricks. Your epic adventure is over and the deadlines,assignments, trials, ringing phones are now your horizon. Of course, the best way to overcome this Low is to immediately begin planning your next offshore epic adventure ...

FISH ON!

Once things warmed up a bit and the flying fish were out in full force, we tossed the hand line out. Check it! Mark cooked up some fantastic Mahi2 tacos.
